Media fun at WGVU

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN – The Explorers were special guests at WGVU television station in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Kim Carson, the host of Kalamazoo Lively Arts, interviewed Explorer students and parents about their involvement in the Explorers. In addition, Carson invited her artist friends to help girls create motivational journals using images taken of them by John Grap.

Students not only took a tour of WGVU but also took part in a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to produce an interview segment. After the interviews, students worked with local artists to discover their best attributes of themselves in the creation of journals. The journals were decorated and included pages each girl used to write positive affirmations about themselves, their dreams, and future travel goals.

Akela Taylor and her grandmother, Carolyn, are interviewed on how she enjoys being an Explorer.

It wouldn’t be an Explorer Day without a competition. So, local artists voted on the best journal covers. The top three winners received an autographed book by an author/artist. Cianna Hobson, Alana Swift, and Akiela Taylor were recognized for their creativity.
