Captain Stacey Randolph Ledbetter was the first African American female to serve as a supervisor with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. While icons such as Rosa Parks and Sojourner Truth have roots in Michigan, not many know of the amazing women who broke barriers in Kalamazoo in the areas of medicine, education, entertainment, and business. Sixteen women such as Monique Grayson (pilot) and Abbey Lincoln (actress) are featured in a new coloring book by Season Press Publishing entitled: “Your Turn: African American Women of Kalamazoo.” Hon.
