Explorers Take Books on the Road

Ziggy and Nariyah

KALAMAZOO (MICH.) – Cows, planes, barbers, and music…oh, my! Those are the things viewers will experience in a new video series created by the Merze Tate Explorers. The Girls Talk Books video series features children’s books that are brought to life with the help of bubbly Explorer reporters. Thanks to sponsors PNC Bank, the Ladies’ Library Association, Kalamazoo Public Schools, and RJ’s Printing, teams of Explorers visit authors on location related to the theme of a book. The segments are recorded in such places as a farm, at the Air Zoo, or other places, and housed on the Merze Tate Explorer YouTube channel. They generate a QR code from the video to place on the book to bring the story to life for the young readers.

The series kicked off on October 14th at the Ladies’ Library in Kalamazoo. The event celebrated the start of the organization’s 15th year, and its commitment to community service. Explorers will present more than 1,500 books from area authors to elementary school classes and nursery schools as a literacy initiative. They will celebrate other community service projects created by Explorers throughout the school year on May 18th, 2024, at a reunion celebration.
